EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
To sit for the Exam: 120 semester hours and a bachelor's degree or higher, including 24 undergraduate (or 15 graduate) semester hours of accounting and 24 undergraduate semester hours of business administration/economics. For licensure: 150 semester hours. Beginning January 1, 2027, Indiana plans to add an alternative pathway of a bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
12 months of qualifying experience (reduced from 24 months effective April 16, 2025) in an accounting firm, advisory/consulting role, government/industry/nonprofit accounting or finance position, or qualifying college-level teaching.
SEPARATE ETHICS EXAM REQUIRED?

CAN YOU SIT FOR THE EXAM BEFORE FINISHING ALL EDUCATION?
Yes — candidates can typically sit for the Exam before finishing all coursework required for full licensure (e.g. at 120 semester hours, finishing the rest before licensure).
